In our 115th episode, I sit down with three SAfrican moms who have already made the big move over with their children and discuss some of the issues which you, as parents, may encounter while planning your move or once you’re in the process of settling in.
Dr. Gerda Scholtz, a Migrant Life Coach, made the move over with her teenage daughter three years ago. Vonne Lombard settled in Aus. two years ago with her two young kids, now aged 9 and 11. Marlize Pretorius has already been here for ten years, with her children who were still young toddlers at the time and shares her experience in dealing with children who have settled from all over the world, as a School Chaplain.
We tackle questions that I so often get asked, regarding the adaptation of migrating with children, as well as the motivations and fears experienced by parents when moving over with kids of different ages.
Listen in as we discuss issues relating to the following topics:
language barriers for those who are not native English speaking and ways to overcome these issues
making the move with children of varying ages and ways in which to integrate and settle in
resiliency, performance, and the expectations that parents have when their children are settling into their new school environment
public vs private schools: how Christian values hold such importance
tips that you’re able to pass on to your children - helping them to thrive while settling in
knowing your ‘why’ - reflecting on the decisions you’ve made and preparing for the journey that lies ahead
