"Waking up in the dark, getting in the car when going to work and and getting in the car to come back home when it is dark again...
We were like- there's no life. It is not our vision of what life should be like."
Born in Zimbabwe, then living in Botswana for her primary school years, South Africa for high school, then Ireland in her 20s, Maxine and her young family finally found their permanent home in Australia.
When they decided to move to Ireland initially, they said they were going to embrace the weather and make the best of it, but reality soon clouded that thought and they couldn't live in the cold and dark any longer.
They saved up just enough to buy tickets for all four of them (this time to Aus), plus their 3 furry babies again (probably the most well-migrated four legged trio!), and landed in Perth with only their suitcases in hand.
8 months later, and they are thriving, have saved up enough to put down a deposit on a house and are loving the life they have found Down Under.
