"The street we live on is in a cul-de-sac and there are lots of other families with kids the same age as our son, so they're all out on the street riding their bikes, and skateboards.

We were able to build strong networks with the local community as well. It's not been as hard as I thought it would be."

Meet Neill, an ex-Durbanite who moved over to the Gold Coast in January 2021. His wife Melanie is Australian, but they actually met each other while based in the UK. Coming from Durban, Neill finds the climate on the Gold Coast to be very similar and loves that there’s so much available to do together, as a family. They’re closely located to the pristine beaches that the Gold Coast has to offer, with Mount Tamborine on their doorstep, and several theme parks to choose from as well - which their 7-year-old son just loves.

Neill walks us through the process of how he managed to land himself a job after not being able to work initially, arriving only on a Tourist Visa, but within a short space of time, he was granted PR.

He shares his perspective of Aus with the life he lives now, compared to when he was living in both South Africa and the UK. Hear all of the valuable tips that he has to offer on settling into his new home country, and all that he endured when arriving in the midst of the Covid Pandemic.
